Your Samsung Account Could Be Deleted This Summer – Here’s What You Need to Know

Time is running out. If you’ve ever owned a Samsung smartphone or tablet, even years ago, your account – and everything in it – could be permanently deleted in just a few weeks.

According to the Swedish tech site Teksajten.se, Samsung has confirmed a major change: from 31 July 2025, all user accounts that haven’t been used for two years will be wiped – along with any stored data, settings, photos, and more.

And once it’s gone, there’s no getting it back.

Why Is Samsung Doing This?

Samsung says the move is part of an effort to improve data security and privacy for users. By cleaning up dormant accounts, the company aims to reduce risk and limit unused data floating around in its systems.

While the intention may be good, the implications are clear: If you don’t act, you could lose important information without warning.

What Will Be Affected?

The new rule applies to all Samsung services that require a login – including:

  • Samsung Cloud

  • Galaxy Store

  • Find My Mobile

  • And other Samsung-connected platforms

If you haven’t logged in to your Samsung account at least once in the past 24 months, it will be classified as inactive and automatically deleted.

Samsung says it plans to notify affected users by email. But here’s the catch: if you have more than one account, each account must be accessed individually to remain active.

As Teksajten.se notes, many users may not even realise they still have an old Samsung account.

“Even if you switched phones years ago, there’s a good chance you still have data sitting in a forgotten Samsung account,” the site writes.

What If You’ve Switched to a Different Brand?

That’s where it gets tricky.

If you once used a Samsung device but now rely on an iPhone, Google Pixel, or OnePlus, there’s still a chance your Samsung account contains valuable data. Think: old backups, app purchases, synced contacts or photos.

Like many others, I’m in that position myself. I had a Samsung handset a few years back, but now use another brand. If I don’t log in soon, everything stored under that account will vanish forever.
